Two or three years ago I attended a small local conference in Fort Myers, FL. Among the companies in the resource center was a representative from the publisher David C Cook. He had a new product that really caught my eye. I was The Action Bible. I immediately fell in love with it. I bought one for my son and ordered an entire case to sell to the kids in our children’s ministry. It took me just 2 weeks to sell the entire case.
That wasn’t the best part…
A couple weeks after getting the Action Bibles in and distributed to the parents who had purchased them I was approached by the mother of one of our 5th graders, Luis. She told me about something that had happened that week. One night after sending Luis to bed she noticed that his light was still on. She quickly went to his room prepared to get onto him for his disobedience. She entered his room and stopped. She found Luis reading his newly obtained Action Bible. As I heard this story I nearly cried. I mean this is the kind of thing that a children’s pastor lives for, kid’s voluntarily and willfully spending time in God’s word. This is the power of the Action Bible.
We have all seen graphic, visual versions of the Bible. Most of them have dated art work that seems aimed more at preschoolers than 5th graders. The Action Bible is different. The art work is contemporary and of a kind that will appeal to 5th graders and beyond. The art work reminds me very much of some of the comic books and graphic novels I read when I was that age. If you are looking for a new and exciting way to present to stories of the Bible or to get kids interested in reading the Bible, this is a great tool to help with that.
