Church Leadership

I’m a Fake

I remember reading an article by Sam Luce. In this article Sam talked about how we should work to build a ministry and not our own fame. At the end of the article he listed five things for a young leader to remember. Here are the five points:

1. Build the church not a following
2. Deflect praise and Give Glory to God for everything
3. Ask more questions than you answer
4. Don’t build a platform build the Kingdom
5. Preach the Gospel no matter the cost.

Recently I have been struck by the fact that I may just be guilty of some of these things. Through the internet I have built somewhat of a following. In many ways this happened naturally and organically. However, I have to admit that there was some effort placed on this goal. While working to build my online presence I fear that I have, to some degree neglected the ministry God has called me to lead at my church. I am not saying that I have completely ignored my church, but I have not given it the attention I should have.

I grew up in the church, I have served in my church for a few years, and I have been a Christian for most of my life. With these experiences and my experience leading people prior to being called to ministry I do think that I have wisdom to share, but I fear that I may have focused too much on building a platform for sharing what I have learned and not enough on building the ministry that God has given me.

So, where does that leave me now? Well, I plan to continue writing on this blog as well as taking advantage of any other opportunities to write. I do feel that this is part of what God has called me to. However, I will be focusing more on building the ministry that God has given me here at my local church.

Now, I invite you to join me on a journey to build the children’s ministry at The Rock of Winter Haven, MY church; a journey to reach the children and families in the communities around my church; a journey to see lives changed and souls saved. Please join me in this.
